Mayer and Wijnberg confounded German intelligence by layering a map of Brooklyn over the city of Tyrol, Austria, where they were initially stationed, using Brooklyn landmarks that corresponded with ones in Tyrol and creating an entirely new set of code names for locations that stymied Nazi intelligence officers.
